Art in the 1990's was mostly just contemporary depicting a more modern look, it was also extremely dramatic. This is where a lot of the art styles transitioned into the art we see today which are purely contemporary. Many artists used contemporary style with different techniques and forms involved as well, such as circlism, self-portraits, large sculptures, and photos. One famous artist, Chuck Close was a great artist who marked a transition from the twentieth century to the twenty first. He uses a unique and dramatic art design in which he makes large scale portraits with. His paintings are fun and interesting to look at because the further you get away from the painting and look at it the more clear it is. When you are close up to it you can see the unique pattern used to make the murals. Close is a perfect example of the transition because some of his styles are unique to the twentieth century but he uses new contemporary techniques that mark the twenty first. Another inspiring artist was George Rodrigue. He was famous for his dramatic blue dog paintings. Rodrigue said he was inspired to paint his pieces on weird landscapes because of where he grew up in Louisiana. His dog paintings have styles from contemporary to Expressionistic styles.
These photos by Close and Rodrigue can be seen as more modern than others even though contemporary art started in the 1940's. They are mostly viewed as closer to the twenty first style but made in the twentieth century because of dramatic expressions and landscapes. Dramatic style was what made contemporary art in the 1990's. It displays beautiful imagery that is sometime off putting.
